Samsung leads mobile TV test in US

Samsung Electronics, MobiTV, Nokia Siemens Networks, Rohde & Schwarz and SES Americom's IP-Prime have announced plans to build a national mobile TV distribution system for the US market. The system will use local broadcast TV spectrum and the A-VSB technology, developed by Samsung and currently under consideration by the Advanced Television Systems Committee as an open standard for mobile broadcast TV. A showcase platform is expected to be ready in 2008 with consumer trials to be announced at a later date. The platform will deliver local and national programming and interactive applications to consumers on mobile devices "in-band," that is through local TV stations' existing transmitters and spectrum. The mobile service platform is based on the Open Mobile Alliance BCAST 1.0 specifications.
