Samsung Pay transactions top KRW 10 tln in South Korea
Samsung Electronics announced that its mobile payment service Samsung Pay has reached KRW 10 trillion (approximately USD 8.76 billion) in accumulated transaction volume in South Korea. Of the total volume, 30 percent of transactions were carried out via online platforms, Yonhap news agency reports. The Samsung Pay platform went live in South Korea in August 2015 and reached KRW 2 trillion in transactions in the first year following launch.

Samsung Pay goes live for SBI Debit Card users in India

Samsung India has announced that its mobile payments platform Samsung Pay will now be available for higher variants of SBI Debit Card, enabling 130 million State Bank of India customers to tap and pay on the go while using Samsung smartphones. With this partnership, Samsung Pay consumers who have an eligible SBI Debit Card can get a flat cashback of INR 100 on a minimum transaction amount of INR 500. The maximum cashback available will be INR 500 per card until 31 August.

PayPal available as payment method within Samsung Pay

Samsung Electronics added PayPal as a payment method within Samsung Pay wherever Samsung Pay is accepted – in-app, online and in-store. This became possible as the two companies expanded their strategic partnership. Access to PayPal will be available for all Samsung Pay users in the US and will expand to other countries soon. In addition, through Braintree, a PayPal service, merchants will be able to accept Samsung Pay as a method of payment in-app and online.

Samsung launches Bixby platform with Korean banks

Samsung Electronics has signed agreements with three South Korean banks to allow customers to use banking services via the Bixby voice command platform, Yonhap news agency reports. Under the terms of the agreements with Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank and KEB Hana Bank, Samsung customers will be able to ask the artificial intelligence program Bixby to display bank accounts or make financial transactions through voice commands.

Samsung Pay goes live in Taiwan

Samsung Electronics has launched its Samsung Pay platform in Taiwan. The official launch follows a 3-week trial of the smartphone-based payment service in cooperation with seven local banks, DigiTimes reports. The seven banks are Citibank Taiwan, Standard Chartered Bank, Cathay United Bank, Taishin International Bank, E.Sun Bank, Union Bank of Taiwan and Taipei Fubon Commercial Bank.
