Samsung to exceed 2009 handset sales target
Samsung said that it is on track to exceed this year's mobile phone sales target, with touchscreen models enjoying sharp growth. It had previously said it aimed to sell more than 200 million phones this year, after selling slightly less than that figure in 2008. Handsets with full touchscreens would account for about 20 percent of the company's mobile phone sales this year, up from about 5 percent in 2008. Between January and November, Samsung sold around 40 million full touchscreen devices, compared with 10 million in 2008. By region, Samsung has sold its largest share of full touch devices in Europe with 19 million units, followed by the United States (6.3 million), China (3.4 million) and South Korea (3.0 million).
