Samsung to use Tizen for new version of smartwatch - report
The new version of Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch will run on Tizen, not Android, three people familiar with the situation told USA Today. Samsung will unveil the updated Gear watch and a new HTML5 version of the Tizen operating system at the Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona. The first version of the Gear smartwatch, launched last year, ran on Android. Replacing Android with Tizen for the new version of the Gear is part of Samsung's efforts to develop more of its own software and become less reliant on Google's Android OS.

Samsung unveils Tizen smartwatches

Samsung Electronics has unveiled two new smartwatches running the Tizen operating system, its first devices on the Linux-based OS. The Tizen Association announced an additional 15 partners in its programme to develop apps for the Tizen mobile operating system. NTT Docomo drops plan for Tizen phone launch in March

NTT Docomo has shelved indefinitely plans for a March launch of a Tizen smartphone. Japan's largest mobile carrier said that the smartphone market in Japan wasn't growing fast enough for it to support a third mobile operating system, the Wall Street Journal reports.
