Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0)
Samsung Electronics announced the latest addition to its Galaxy Tab line of tablets, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0). The tablet will be available in Wi-Fi and HSPA+ (21Mbps) versions, first in the UK, followed by a global launch from March. This is the company's first tablet to run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Samsung said the Tab 2 (7.0) also comes with an upgraded TouchWiz user interface, which includes the ability to swipe-control applications, quicker widget access to content in the multimedia hubs and recommended apps on the home screen. In addition to the Samsung Music, Reader and Game Hubs, the company is also adding a Video Hub, which offers over 1,000 film titles for purchase or rent, as well as reviews, trailers and recommendations. Also new is AllShare Play, a new content-sharing service available for the first time on any Samsung mobile device. AllShare Play allows users to play or live-stream their multimedia content on their tablet from PCs, other Samsung smart devices or third-party web storage. Users can also use it to transfer content to other devices or directly to web services. Other features of the tablet include facial recognition software to lock the device, closer integration with the Google+ social network and support for voice calls. Technical specifications include a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 7-inch WSVGA (1024x600) display, 3 megapixel rear camera and front VGA camera, A-GPS, 8, 16 or 32GB user memory plus 1GB RAM, microSD card slot and 4,000mAh battery.
