Sandvine lands Digicel network intelligence contract

Sandvine said it has been awarded a “multimillion-dollar” order to provide cloud-based application and network intelligence solutions to Caribbean-focused operator Digicel. Under the deal, Digicel will move to Sandvine’s Active Network Intelligence (ANI) Portal as part of its commitment to deliver the best possible service across 32 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and the Pacific.

Sandvine’s ANI Portal is designed to analyse, optimise and monetise applications based on real-time data, helping Digicel to meet the latency, speed and reliability required for future 5G applications and network slices. Digicel has been using Sandvine’s revenue generation and network optimisation products for the past 8 years.

Last year the operator relaunched as a fully digital operator providing personalised digital experiences with suites of applications for on-the-go sports, music, news, local radio, podcasts and messaging.

Fijian operator Digicel said it launched its next-generation satellite broadband service – Digisat. The service will provide universal data connectivity at an affordable rate in rural and remote communities. Digicel's remote community Wi-Fi will provide broadband services to rural households and businesses that are currently without access to the internet.

Digicel service revenues drop 2% to USD 538 mln in March quarter

Caribbean-focused operator Digicel reported underlying service revenues down 2 percent year on year to USD 538 million in its fiscal fourth quarter to the end of March, reports the Irish Times, citing executives attending the company's earnings call with creditors. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) came in at USD 253 million, a 3 percent year on year decline, attributed to ongoing Covid-19 impact in its 32 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia-Pacific.

Digicel-Iliad network sharing deal gets regulatory clearance

France's telecom authority said that it completed an in-depth investigation into the amended contract agreed in December by Digicel and Iliad's subsidiary Free Caraibe, concluding that no regulatory intervention is necessary at this stage. The two partners announced the creation of joint venture company Madiacom in mid-2020, which will operate a shared radio access network (RAN) in the overseas territories of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Barthelemy, Saint-Martin and French Guiana.

Digicel, Microsoft ink Curacao school fibre and software deals

Caribbean-focused operator Digicel has won a tender launched by the government of Curacao to bring fibre-optic broadband to a total of 118 schools throughout the territory, reports local daily The Curacao Chronicle. Under the plan, Digicel and its TRES Networks subsidiary will provide the schools with broadband speeds of up to 300Mbps and control access via a centralised data centre. The first 60 schools will be connected to the fibre service in the space of a week, said the report.
