Sasatel launches CDMA network in Tanzania
Tanzanian operator Dovetel, trading under the name Sasatel, has become the seventh company to provide mobile services in the country. Sasatel said in a statement that the roll-out of its network would be undertaken in phases. The initial roll-out covers major parts of the largest city Dar es Salaam, and the next phase of network expansion will cover the rest of Dar es Salaam and all other major cities in Tanzania. The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) licensed Dovetel in June 2008. Sasatel has a licence for voice and data services, internet service provision and international gateway services. It will offer services over a CDMA network providing high-speed internet connections and the option of prepaid packages. The company will offer fixed-wireless phones that have internet connectivity capabilities as well as mobile phones. The company will also soon be offering Wi-Fi routers and broadband EV-DO modems for high-speed internet access.
