Scartel ready to launch VoLTE in Russia

Russian mobile operator Scartel has implemented voice over LTE (VoLTE) with a single radio voice call continuity (SRVCC) platform from Huawei. Following the implementation of the platform, Scartel is now technologically capable of supporting voice calls on its LTE network.

SRVCC implements a handover function that enables LTE voice call continuity in 2G/3G networks without any perceivable interruptions for the end-user. This allows MVNOs that use Scartel's LTE network also to support voice calls. With VoLTE, voice calls can be established in only 2 seconds, much faster than traditional 2G/3G network setups.

Huawei provides an end-to-end network platform for Scartel that covers the radio access network, Circuit Switch core network, IP Multimedia Subsystem, Evolved Packet Core and Huawei’s Ascend P1 smartphone.

According to Infonetics Research, 12 commercial networks with the ability to support 8 million subscribers using VoLTE are expected to be deployed worldwide by the end of 2013. Huawei is involved in implementing VoLTE for the majority of these networks.
