Serbian operators acquire 800 MHz band frequencies

Serbia's Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (Ratel) has successfully completed the public auction for frequencies in the 791-821/832-862 MHz band. All three existing mobile operators, namely Telekom Srbija, Vip mobile and Telenor, were awarded 2x5 MHz frequency blocks in the 800 MHz band, each paying around EUR 35 million, for a total sum of EUR 105 million for the state budget. The regulator will issue the technology-neutral licences for a period of 10 years, with the possibility of a five-year extension. Four months after receiving the licences, the mobile operators will have to start providing mobile broadband services.
