SFR tests LTE-Advanced
French operator SFR has claimed a first in France with a trial of LTE-Advanced technology. The test was conducted at its R&D lab Efixo in Marseilles, achieving download speeds of 174 Mbps. The technology uses carrier aggregation of frequencies in the 800 and 2,600 MHz bands to achieve the faster speeds. SFR said it expects the first devices supporting LTE-Advanced to be able from the second half of 2014, after which it will commercialise the service for consumers as well as business users.

Orange France to start using LTE-A this summer

Orange France will start using LTE Advanced this summer with its partners Qualcomm and Ericsson, the operator's director of networks, Jean-Luc Vuillemin, told Les Echos. Bouygues Telecom to launch LTE-A in June

French operator Bouygues Telecom has announced that it will launch LTE Advanced services in Lyon and Bordeaux in June. Bouygues, SFR and Orange France are all testing LTE-A in one or two cities, but Bouygues claims to be the first to have achieved 182 Mbps downloads. Orange to trial LTE Advanced in Bordeaux

SFR brings LTE to 5 more cities, inner suburbs of Paris

French mobile and broadband operator SFR has announced the launch of its LTE network in Brest, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Le Mans, Troyes and the inner suburbs of Paris. SFR expects its LTE network to be available in 1,200 cities by the end of the year, thereby covering 40 percent of the population, compared to 415 cities on 1 November. The operator said that its Dual Carrier (DC-HSPA+) and LTE networks together will cover 70 percent of the population by the end of the year.

SFR revenue falls 8.7 percent to EUR 2.51 billion in Q3

French mobile operator SFR recorded revenue down 8.7 percent to EUR 2.51 billion in the third quarter, compared to EUR 2.75 billion in the year-earlier period. French LTE sites grow 18.5% in October

The number of authorised LTE base stations in France rose by 18.5 percent in October to 11,345, according to the spectrum regulator ANFR. The 800 MHz band showed the strongest growth, with authorisations up 40 percent in the month to 2,521, of which half are held by SFR. The number of LTE-1,800 sites grew by 27 percent in October to 5,970. Bouygues Telecom is authorised to use this band and said it had 4,227 sites active already, up 25 percent from September. Megafon, Scartel to get spectrum for LTE Advanced testing

Russian state radio frequencies commission SRFC plans to allocate bands for LTE Advanced technology testing for mobile operators Megafon and Scartel, reports Prime. The decision will be taken on 15 October and the tests will be carried out in the city of Moscow and in the surrounding region. Airwaves in the 2.500-2.540 MHz and 2.620-2,660 MHz bands are expected to be allocated to the operators by 31 March 2015.

Smart conducts LTE-Advanced test on Boracay Island

Philippine mobile operator Smart Communications has ramped up network trials for LTE-Advanced with a recent field test on Boracay Island, Aklan. The test was held during the Geeks on a Beach start-up conference and recorded download speeds of 203.23 Mbps. In an earlier trial in Davao City Smart recorded speeds of 210.58 Mbps and in a Makai City trial the operator saw consistent speeds of 209.66 Mbps.

KT outlines LTE-A plans

South Korean telecommunications provider KT has announced it will launch LTE-Advanced services this month, starting in Seoul. The company recently secured bandwidth in the 1.8 GHz range, which will be aggregated with the company's adjacent bandwidth to allow LTE-Advanced services without adding much cost, the Korea Herald reports. After Seoul, the LTE-A service will be expanded to five metropolitan cities by March 2014 and nationwide by next July.

Australian operator Telstra has launched LTE-Advanced service using carrier aggregation technology for the 1800 and 900 MHz bands from Ericsson. Turkcell demos mobile internet at LTE Advanced speeds

Turkcell successfully conducted a mobile internet test that achieved speeds of around 900 Mbps through LTE Advanced technology. The test was held on 31 July at a press conference at Turkcell Plaza in Istanbul in a laboratory environment with the guidance of Turkcell technology and Huawei technical support.
