SFR wins exclusive rights to World Series of Boxing matches

SFR announced that its parent Altice has signed a four-year agreement which secures exclusive rights to air World Series of Boxing (WSB) matches in France, Luxembourg, Switzerland and francophone Belgium. The agreement, signed with Asloum Event and IMG/WSB, also includes a marketing component to increase the visibility of the matches featuring the French team, which will take part in the 2017 competition under the name of “The Fighting Roosters”.

The first matches in the qualifying phase will be broadcast on the SFR Sport channels from February.

According to unnamed sources quoted by Reuters, Altice offered EUR 350 million per year to win the rights and fend off rival bidders.

Altice, Cisco to progress NFV migration of mobile networks

Altice announced at Mobile World Congress that it will continue to work with Cisco in migrating its mobile network services to an NFV (network function virtualisation) infrastructure. SFR, Altice's French subsidiary, has been the first within the group to undertake this transformation, with 50 percent of its mobile traffic already running on a virtualised platform and 80 percent planned by end-2017.

SFR Sport offers OTT service to non-SFR customers

SFR's sports proposition, including four TV channels, has become available as an OTT service to non-SFR customers from 15 November. SFR Sport was previously offered as an add-on or bundled with SFR's plans (fixed and/or mobile). The new OTT service can now be purchased without a minimum contract for EUR 9.99 per month, available on PC, tablet and smartphone (via the SFR Sport app) or the TV screen (via Google's Chromecast and Apple's Airplay).

SFR adds more English rugby to exclusive sport content

SFR announced that its parent Altice has signed a content deal with the English Rugby Football Union, securing exclusive rights to screen four to five home matches of the English team. The content deal covers the rights in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg for the 2016-2020 period. In France, the matches will be screened on the SFR Sport 2 channel, complementing the existing coverage of English Aviva Premiership Rugby.

SFR has secured exclusive rights to screen French athletics events, emerging as the winning partner selected by the French Athletics Federation (Fédération Française d'Athlétisme or FFA).
