Shell awards USD 4 bln in contracts to T-Systems, AT&T, EDS

Royal Dutch Shell has awarded USD 4 billion in ICT services contracts to T-Systems, AT&T and EDS. T-Systems won a five-year deal worth EUR 1 billion, the biggest contract ever for the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary. T-Systems will provide Shell with worldwide hosting and storage services, taking over the infrastructure and staff at Shell's data centres worldwide. Three of the centres are in the Netherlands, one is in Malaysia and the fifth is in the US. To meet the demands of the contract, T-Systems is moving its head office in the US to Houston and setting up a service management centre in Malaysia with 900 IT specialists from Shell. The core of the account management will be based in The Hague. AT&T's part of the deal was worth USD 1.6 billion over five years. The US-based operator will supply, manage and maintain the oil company's worldwide communications systems, including network services in more than 100 countries and connections for more than 1,500 sites. Services include LAN and WAN infrastructure, voice (over IP) services, security and mobility services. AT&T will also supervise Shell's supply contracts with some 300 local operators, including for mobile services. Around 500 Shell staff are expected to move to AT&T, mainly in the Netherlands, Malaysia, UK and US. EDS' share of the five-year contract is worth another USD 1 billion. The company will take over management of end-user IT at Shell, including desktops, on-site support, service desks, back-up, data protection and managed messaging. Around 1,500 IT staff at Shell in 65 countries will transfer to EDS.
