SK Telecom in talks on LightSquared investment
Korean communications providers SK Telecom is in talks to invest in US wholesale-only integrated wireless broadband and satellite network provider LightSquared, reports Reuters citing an SK Telecom spokeswoman. LightSquared, which is backed by hedge fund Harbinger Capital Partners, is planning to build an open mobile broadband network using LTE technology. It plans to start network construction with USD 1.75 billion of financing from financial investors, and is expected to raise a second round of financing in the next two years. Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver equipment to LightSquared this year so it can test network services in Baltimore, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Denver in the first half of 2011.
