Sky to bring satellite dish-free TV service to UK in 2018

Sky is planning to launch Sky TV without the need of a satellite dish. The service is expected to launch in 2018, delivered through a box over broadband. Sky noted that there are now over 1 million Sky Q boxes in around 600,000 homes in the UK, and that these tend to watch 10 percent more TV than customers on Sky+.

Sky is also aiming to this year introduce voice search, greater personalisation and the ability to record six shows while watching a seventh live.

The operator has also launched the new My Sky app, making it easier and quicker for customers to check their broadband speed, review their monthly bill, change how and when they pay and get help and support with step by step videos and articles.

The operator is also planning to release a new big-screen drama every month, including eleven dramas from Sky Original Productions. These will include Fortitude, Riviera, Tin Star, Gomorrah and Guerrilla. Sky will also give exclusive access to US shows from Showtime and HBO such as Billions, Twin Peaks, and Game of Thrones, plus a new film premiere every day on Sky Cinema including Finding Dory, Deadpool, Absolutely Fabulous and X-Men: Apocalypse.
