
Skype buys mobile group messaging services provider GroupMe

Skype has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire mobile group messaging services provider GroupMe. Set up in 2010, GroupMe is headquartered in New York. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed. However, according to All Things Digital, citing people familiar with the transaction, Skype will pay around USD 85 million for GroupMe. Via the GroupMe acquisition, Skype complements its voice and video communications services offering with text-based communications and features designed to enable users to connect, as well as share locations and photos.
