Smartphone sales to grow 23% to 1.2 bln in 2014 – survey

Worldwide smartphone shipments will reach a total of 1.2 billion units in 2014, a 23.1 percent increase on the 1.0 billion units shipped in 2013, according to the latest quarterly forecast from IDC. Emerging markets in India, Indonesia and Russia will continue to drive sales for the next few years, pushing total volumes to 1.8 billion units in 2018 and resulting in a 12.3 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2013–2018.
