SmartThings updates home hub, adds video alerts

SmartThings, the smart home developer acquired a year ago by Samsung, has unveiled a new hub, sensors and app at the IFA show in Berlin. The Samsung SmartThings Hub connects to sensors throughout the home to control doors, electric outlets, water leaks and other home functions such as surveillance. The new Hub enables video streaming, has battery backup up to 10 hours, and can run certain functions locally to improve performance and continue to operate without an internet connection. It can connect to other devices over ZigBee, Z-Wave and local internet connections and also includes two USB
