
Some 86 percent of US shoppers plan to buy technology devices, accessories and/or streaming services during Black Friday Week, according to a new report released by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). The top planned purchases for technology shoppers during Thanksgiving Week are wireless earbuds/headphones at 53 percent, down 4 percentage points from last year; mobile device cases at 51 percent, up 5 points; streaming or download services at 49 percent, up 8 points; smartphones at 46 percent, up 5 points; and portable battery chargers at 44 percent, up 2 points.
Holiday shopping season begins early
Compared with last year, 45 percent of US adults plan to shop in November, up 7 percent.
During Black Friday Week specifically, the US will see a slightly lower turnout of general holiday shoppers, with 45 percent of adults planning to shop between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday (down 4% from 2019) and 30 percent planning to shop in December, down 8% from last year.
US adults still plan to shop for tech at Brick-and-Mortar
Most US adults purchasing technology during Black Friday Week still plan to shop in brick-and-mortar stores (97 percent), while more consumers plan to use their mobile devices (86 percent) and voice-activated digital assistants (51 percent) to shop compared to last year.
CTA holiday research
Over the entire holiday shopping season, spanning October through December, CTA projects overall technology spending on products and services will reach USD 135 billion in US revenue, up 10 percent in 2020.
This quantitative study, designed and formulated by CTA, was administered to an online sample of 2006 US adults between 30 October through 01 November, 2020.
