Sonatel, BICIS to launch Orange Money in Senegal
Senegalese operator Sonatel has signed a partnership with banking group BICIS to develop Orange Money as the country's first mobile bill paying and domestic money transfer service. Sonatel and BICIS have met the regulatory and technical pre-requisites to offer the service next year. Users will have to deposit funds into their Orange Money account at an accredited partner's location. They will be able to transfer money to other Orange Money users. Customers will also be able to withdraw money from their Orange Money account at any accredited outlet. SMS will be used to validate and confirms transactions, and a PIN number for security. Bills will be payable at Orange stores or at an office of the company that issued the bill. Customers will be able to buy Orange Mobile top-ups from their Orange Money account.
