Sonera migrates fixed customers to mobile network
Finnish operator Sonera is planning to migrate 53,000 of its fixed network customers to mobile voice and broadband services. Sonera plans to migrate the customers in sparsely populated areas to mobile voice services within a year and to mobile broadband services by the end of 2009. Sonera's mobile network now covers approximately 97 percent of Finland's total area and almost 100 percent of the Finnish population. In sparsely populated areas, Sonera provides wireless broadband services at a speed of up to 1 Mbps over Digita's @450 network. Business customers' voice and data communications connections in sparsely populated areas will also be replaced with more up-to-date services appropriate for mobile work as soon as such solutions are available. The fixed network will continue to operate until the new services are in place and customers will be offered services at at leats the same level of quality.
