Sony Ericsson launches Xperia Windows smartphone
Sony Ericsson has unveiled six new handsets plus its new Xperia smartphone range at the Mobile World Congress. The first Xperia, the X1, will launch in H2. The handset is Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile device, an arc slider with metal finish featuring a qwerty keyboard and large touch screen. The phone runs on GPRS/EDGE/HSPA networks as well as Wi-Fi, and comes with built-in GPS, 400 MB memory and the Nexperia panels system for customising menus. Sony Ericsson also launched two touch screen organiser phones, the G700 and G900, available from Q2. Both are GPRS/UMTS phones with organiser features, while the U900 features a 5 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi as well. In the Walkman range, Sony Ericsson showed the W980 with 8 GB internal memory. The HSDPA phone, available from Q3, has been paired with the new Stereo Portable Handsfree HPM-77 headset. Sony Ericsson also released two new CyberShots, the C702 with GPS and a range of location-based services like Google Maps, and the C902 with 5 megapixel camera and 160 MB internal memory. The two camera phones will hit the market in Q2. Finally, Sony Ericsson also showed the Z770 clamshell, designed for easy, consumer web use. The EDGE/HSDPA phone in red, black or gold will be available from Q2.
