Spain starts probe of Movistar, Vodafone, Orange
The Spanish antitrust regulator CNC has launched an investigation of Telefonica, Vodafone and Orange for alleged infringement of fair competition rules. The CNC suspects the three operators of abusing their dominant positions, by setting excessive wholesale prices for call origination and termination that squeezed the profit margins of virtual mobile operators. The regulator is also concerned about retail mobile voice prices, especially for business customers. The investigation follows a complaint filed by BT and its Spanish subsidiary. The CNC has 18 months to release its final decision on the case.
