Spanish MVNO Carrefour Movil has announced that it will cease all activity and discontinue services on 21 December 2017. In a statement, Carrefour Movil said it was giving its subscribers sufficient advance warning to act accordingly and migrate their accounts to other operators before the final cut-off date of 31 December. The operator specified that it had taken the decision to discontinue the service due to “the impossibility of offering the best convergent (fibre/ADSL/4G) service package”, adding that an agreement had been reached with Orange to offer existing customers the same services if they sign up with the French operator or its Jazztel and Simyo brands.
There are currently 30 or so MVNOs present in Spain, with a joint market share of around 15 percent, according to communications regulator CNMC. The watchdog last year revealed that some 71.7 percent of Spanish homes subscribing to a convergent package.
