Spanish telecommunications group Masmovil, the country’s fourth largest network operator, has enhanced its existing collaboration with El Corte Ingles with an agreement to help the retail giant offer mobile and convergent services under the ‘Sweno’ brand. In a short statement, the partners said the deal signed by Masmovil CEO Meinrad Spenger and El Corte Ingles CEO Victor del Pozo will enable the companies to “market services under the best conditions so that they cover all the connectivity needs of their clients, in accordance with their usual standards of premium quality and trust”.
No further details of the specific services were given but El Corte Ingles said it intends to combine its technology offering with telecommunications, especially in the smart home environment, while Masmovil said it will be providing its extensive mobile and fibre network to help the retailer launch the Sweno brand.
In November, the partners agreed to work together on new commercial offers and campaigns for their 25 million-plus customers in Spain, one of the most striking of which will be a low-cost joint offer with the Sicor security arm of El Corte Ingles. Masmovil is currently offering customers of its Yoigo brand a free 1-year subscription to the retail chain’s flat-rate shipping service ‘El Corte Ingles Plus’, normally costing EUR 19.90 a year.
