Spectra, Microsoft start TV white space broadband in Ghana
Spectra Wireless and Microsoft 4Afrika have launched a commercial broadband network using TV white space spectrum in Ghana. The service called djungleEd offers high-speed internet bundles and devices aimed at students. The commercial service builds on the initial TV white spaces pilot launched in May 2014. As part of the commercial pilot service, university students will be able to purchase internet bundles, receive free access to relevant applications, including Microsoft Office 365 and the Microsoft Virtual Academy, and apply for zero-interest loans in partnership with UT Bank to purchase select, internet-enabled Microsoft, Lenovo, Dell and HP devices. The data packages start at GHS 2 for 24 hours of access. Spectra said it already had over 5,800 devices registered to the network.
