Sprint gives LightSquared 30 days to secure FCC clearance
Sprint Nextel has given LightSquared a 30-day extension to a 31 December deadline to get Federal Communications Commission clearance to operate its network, the Wall Street Journal reports. Getting FCC clearance is a condition of the 15-year network-sharing accord between the two companies. LightSquared has said the Sprint accord will help it save USD 13 billion through the end of this decade. Approval from the FCC has been delayed by the issue of inteference to GPS devices by LightSquared's network. The company is still conducting tests and in talks with the government and industry on resolving the issue.
