Sprint Nextel confirms talks with Softbank

US mobile operator Sprint Nextel has confirmed talks with Japanese operator Softbank regarding a potential substantial investment by the Japanese company in Sprint. Sprint said that there could be no assurances that the talks would result in a deal or on what terms any deal would happen, adding that any deal could involve a change of control of the company. It does not plan to comment further unless and until an agreement is reached. Reuters earlier reported that Softbank was in talks to acquire a majority stake in Sprint for more than JPY 1 trillion (USD 12.8 billion).
