Sprint announced it's working with LG Electronics on its first 5G smartphone, planned for release in the first half of 2019. The device specifications and exact timing of the launch will be announced later.
LG said it's worked with Sprint for almost 20 years already and was keen to expand the partnership to 5G. Sprint earlier announced that it's working also with Intel on developing 5G computing devices.
Sprint recently announced plans to launch its 5G mobile network in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix and Washington, DC. Additional markets will be announced later, as the roll-out progresses. A key part of Sprint's roll-out is the use of massive MIMO to boost capacity and speeds especially in high-traffic areas.
