Sunrise UPC plans 450 redundancies following merger

Sunrise UPC said it foresees 450 redundancies, which equals 13.5 percent of the total 3,350 employees, as part of a restructuring plan following the acquisition of Sunrise by Liberty Global through its subsidiary UPC Switzerland. The new company Sunrise UPC plans approximately 300 redundancies as part of the integration process this year and a reduction of about 200 jobs in 2022, including 150 through redundancies primarily in finance, IT and technology and about 50 through attrition. Sunrise announced the start of the consultations to cut the workforce in January.

The company will continue to support employees impacted by the redundancies through a social plan that takes into account their age and years of service. Employees between the ages of 58 and 62, for example, can opt for an outplacement programme until they reach early retirement. They can also benefit from a fixed-term employment contract until the age of 62. Sunrise UPC will provide CHF 2.5 million for bridging measures in individual cases involving hardship, or for qualification measures.
