T-Mobile fails in legal challenge to block Orange takeover
T-Mobile Austria has seen the Administrative Court reject its complaint about the takeover of Orange Austria by Hutchison 3G Austria (3 Austria). The court rejected the complaint because T-Mobile had failed to provide concrete evidence that its business would be unfairly disadvantaged by the deal.

Austrian mobile market shrinks to three players

Following a year-long approval process, 3 Austria completed the acquisition of Orange Austria in January 2013, making the Austrian mobile market a three player market with A1 and T-Mobile Austria as its competitors. T-Mobile Austria gained a net 29,000 new mobile customers in the fourth quarter, to finish the year with a total 4.104 million. Revenues were down 8.1 percent year-on-year to EUR 215 million, while EBITDA was unchanged at EUR 56 million. ARPU was stable versus Q3 at EUR 16 but down 11.1 percent from Q4 2011. T-Mobile Austria promotion offers free Galaxy S3 smartphone

T-Mobile Austria has launched a winter sale, offering the Samsung Galaxy SIII high-end Android smartphone for free (instead of RRP EUR 699) with the All Inclusive 2000 tariff at EUR 29.99 per month. This tariff includes 2,000 minutes, 1,000 texts and unlimited mobile data (4 GB high-speed). The promotion runs for one week from 28 January to 03 February. AK warns of tariff hikes after mobile market consolidation

The Austria Labour Organisation (AK) has warned that the current consolidation of the Austrian mobile market could result in higher prices for consumers. AK expert Helmut Gahleitner urged the regulator to monitor the market to ensure that the takeover of Orange by 3 Austria, and the sale of discount mobile brand Yesss! to A1, does not have a negative impact on consumers.

3 Austria completes Orange Austria acquisition

Hutchison 3G Austria (3 Austria) has completed the acquisition of Orange Austria from its owners Mid Europa Partners (65%) and France Telecom (35%). The transaction has a value of EUR 1.3 billion and took almost one year to be completed as the European Commission, Austrian cartel office BWB and Austrian telecom control commission TKK had to approve several parts of the acquisition. After completion, 3 Austria is now the third largest mobile operator in Austria behind A1 Telekom Austria and T-Mobile Austria.
