T-Mobile, Sprint merger gets US national security clearance
The Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) has given its accord for the merger between T-Mobile US and Sprint. Team Telecom, made up of the US Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Defense, also confirmed it has no objections to the merger and that it has withdrawn its request to defer action on the transaction. 

T-Mobile US CEO John Legere expressed satisfaction with the “milestones” and said he looks forward to continuing discussions with the remaining regulatory agencies reviewing the deal. 

The merger is expected to complete in the first half of next year.

Justice Department antitrust enforcement staff have told T-Mobile US and Sprint that their planned merger is unlikely to be approved as currently structured, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. In a meeting earlier this month, Justice Department staff members laid out their concerns with the deal and questioned the companies' arguments that the combination would produce important efficiencies for the merged firm.

FCC delays Sprint/T-Mobile review process to consider additional information

The US Federal Communications Commission has decided to give people three more weeks to comment on the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile US, Reuters reported. The move, which halts the the informal 180-day "shot clock" for the review, comes after the companies filed significant additional information on their network integration plans for 2019-2021 and other new information about the merger. The FCC expects to resume the "shot clock," at the current Day 122, on April 4. `

T-Mobile US says Sprint merger, 5G rollout on track

T-Mobile US said it is confident its merger with Sprint will get regulatory approval as planned by end June, CEO John Legere announced. In a blog post, he outlined the progress with regulatory approval and T-Mobile's promises for delivering improved services after the merger. Meanwhile, CTO Neville Ray told Cnet that the company's 5G roll-out will not gather pace until the second half of this year, due to a lack of compatible devices.

Nine Democrats in the US Senate have called for the Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission to block T-Mobile US's planned takeover of Sprint, Cnet reports. The Senators wrote to the two bodies that will decide on regulatory clearance for the merger ahead of hearings in Congress on the deal.

T-Mobile, Sprint to set up and expand customer experience centres after merger, creating over 5,000 jobs

T-Mobile US and Sprint have laid out some concrete hiring plans post merger. The companies said they will then build five new Customer Experience Centers around the US, creating an average of 1,000 new jobs per centre. The companies will also expand two existing T-Mobile Center. Altogether, up to 5,600 customer care jobs will be created by 2021 in the US. By 2024, the companies said will be employing 7,500 more customer care professionals than the stand-alone companies would have.

US House committees call public hearing on Sprint, T-Mobile merger

The US House of Representatives announced plans to hold a public hearing on T-Mobile US's proposed takeover of Sprint. The hearing will be held 13 February by the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and the Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial and Administrative Law, looking at the merger's potential impact on consumers, workers and the wireless industry.

The FCC has suspended its review of the proposed takeover of Sprint by T-Mobile US. The delay is a result of a wider suspension of operations at the FCC due the government shutdown and budget impasse in the US. T-Mobile had aimed to complete the deal first announced in April 2018 in the first half of 2019, but this is the second delay in the FCC's review of the merger.
