T-Mobile USA to close call centres, cut 1,900 jobs

T-Mobile USA announced plans to close seven of its 24 call centres, cutting a total 1,900 jobs by the end of June. The seven affected sites across the US employ 3,300 people, but T-Mobile said it will be increasing staff at the other sites, so the net loss is only 1,900. Affected staff will be invited to move to other sites within the company or receive assistance in finding a new job. T-Mobile said it plans other, unspecified restructuring measures in the second quarter, aimed at lowering costs. The resulting efficiencies will support the earlier announced investments in its network and sales team.
