T-Mobile USA to raise top speed to 42Mbps by mid-year

T-Mobile USA announced plans to double the top speed of its HSPA+ network this year to up to 42Mbps. The company plans to launch at least 25 compatible devices for the network this year, including the just announced Dell Streak 7 tablet. Additional devices capable of delivering peak download speeds of up to 21 Mbps will launch in the first half of 2011, and smartphones capable of delivering peak download speeds of up to 42 Mbps will be available in the second half of the year. T-Mobile demonstrated at the CES in Las Vegas the top speed with a laptop stick developed by ZTE. The faster service should launch by mid-year and initially cover 140 million people in 25 metro areas, T-Mobile said.
