Tablet usage on the rise in the US - AdMob survey
Tablet usage is growing in the US and sometimes surpasses time spent on desktop and TV, according to a survey conducted by Google's mobile advertising arm AdMob. Approximately 43 percent of respondents spend more time using their tablet than their desktop or laptop, while a third spend more time using their tablet than they do watching TV. Most popular activities on tablets include gaming (84 percent), searching for info (78 percent) and emailing (74 percent), while the least popular are shopping (42 percent), reading e-books (46 percent) and consuming entertainment (51 percent). The majority of respondents, 68 percent, spend at least 1 hour a day on their tablet, and 82 percent of respondents primarily use their tablet at home. Some 69 percent of respondents said they use their tablet more frequently on weekdays relative to weekends, while 62 percent of respondents use tablets more during the night. Over three quarters (77 percent) of respondents reported that their desktop/laptop usage decreased after getting a tablet, while more than a quarter (28 percent) said that the tablet is their primary computer. This report includes results from a tablet survey that was run in the US in March. A total of 1,430 people took part in the survey.
