Taiwanese handset makers have shipped 15.81 million handsets in the first quarter (excluding shipments from pure EMS assembly), which is down 20.1 percent from the previous quarter and down 24.5 percent year-on-year. The decrease was mainly due to a large decline in orders from local smartphone vendor HTC, according to Digitimes Research. However, the share of smartphones of total shipments exceeded 70 percent for the first time.
