TalkTalk exits mobile business, sells 4G deals from O2

UK telecoms provider TalkTalk is offering its customers special mobile deals from O2 as it stops selling TalkTalk Mobile services. The O2 4G services are also available to TalkTalk broadband customers. 

TalkTalk partnered with O2 to offer a simplified mobile service, and is no longer selling TalkTalk SIM upgrades, TalkTalk mobile phones and the Essential SIM. Existing TalkTalk Mobile customers can continue until the end of their contract, but will not be able to renew with TalkTalk.

TalkTalk launches new unlimited fibre broadband promotion

UK telecoms provider TalkTalk is urging customers to assess their spending habits and ensure they are getting the best broadband deal when their current contract ends. The warning comes after BT and Sky both recently increased their prices. TalkTalk claims that customers currently with BT, Sky and Virgin Media could save up to GBP 171 by switching to TalkTalk's Fixed Low Price Plans , which guarantee no price increases mid-contract.

O2 UK sees revenue growth of 3.2%, OIBDA up 3.7% in Q4

Telefonica UK (O2) registered year-on-year revenue growth of 3.2 percent and OIBDA growth of 3.7 percent in Q4 2017, with increased customer spend and improved customer metrics, despite significant regulatory impacts. Total mobile accesses were mainly stable at 25 million, rising to 32.2 million including partners of the Telefonica UK network.

5G test bed to be rolled out at The O2 in London

O2 UK plans to launch a 5G test bed at The O2 entertainment venue in North Greenwich, London. Installation of the network will commence in March, with the technology available to visitors from 2nd-half 2018.

TalkTalk cuts dividend to fund UK full-fibre roll-out

TalkTalk confirmed that it was in talks to provide a full-fibre roll-out across the UK, potentially providing full fibre to more than 3 million homes and businesses in medium-sized towns and cities. The announcement was made as TalkTalk issued a trading update for its third quarter to 31 December, with on-network net additions reaching 37,000 in the quarter. The company has increased its net addition forecast for the full year to 150,00-160,000.

The Telecompaper basket of European telecom stocks gained 0.9 percent last week (week 4). Sky (+4,6%) showed the best performance on the back of its semi-annual results and several product announcements. Investors apparently shrugged off the news of the UK regulator's decision to block the planned takeover by 21st Century Fox, on fears of Rupert Murdoch becoming too influential in the UK news business. Telia (+3.5%) also fared well, after reporting Q4 results and plans to sell its Georgian subsidiary.

TalkTalk, Vodafone lead broadband, mobile complaints again in Q3

TalkTalk remained the most complained-about fixed broadband provider in the UK in Q3 2017, according to the latest telecoms and pay-TV complaints data released by Ofcom. TalkTalk generated 30 complaints per 100,000 customers, up from 24 in Q2. This compares to an industry average of 18 complaints. Sky remained the operator with the fewest complaints, at 7 per 100,000 customers, the same as in the previous quarter.

TalkTalk adds 46,000 on-net broadband customers in H1

UK telecoms company TalkTalk has registered 46,000 on-net broadband customer additions for the six months to 30 September, compared to a year-earlier net loss of 29,000, with double-digit growth in both retail and wholesale bases. It saw strong growth in both fibre broadband (+161,000) and TV (+19,000), and a return to on-net revenue growth in the second-quarter (+1.3%). Customer churn fell to 1.3 percent in the 1st-half, from 1.5 percent in H2 FY 2017.

TalkTalk introduces two-month billing periods

Swiss operator TalkTalk offers its mobile tariffs S, M, L in a new version, with a two-month subscription. The minute and data packages apply for a two-month period, just like the billing. The amount charged does not change, however the volume of minute and data packages has been increased by 25 percent.

TalkTalk considers exiting mobile business - report

TalkTalk is considering exiting the mobile market and has opened talks with Vodafone, Virgin Media and O2 about a possible deal, reports the Financial Times. The move fits with its new strategy to return to its roots as a budget internet provider and focus on fixed-line broadband. Launched in 2010, the TalkTalk mobile service has 913,000 customers.
