TDC buys MVNO Plenti with 90,000 users on 3 Denmark network

Danish operator TDC said it has acquired Danish MVNO Plenti for DKK 74 million. Plenti currently runs on rival 3 Denmark’s network, and TDC will negotiate the transfer of Plenti’s 90,000 or so customers to TDC’s own mobile grid.

Plenti specialises in offering customers entertainment content, such as e-books, electronic magazines, e-newspapers including Berlingske, and tickets to Tivoli Gardens. TDC said it will investigate whether its can strengthen Plenti’s products

Plenti has 90 employees in its office in Copenhagen and all employees will continue on unchanged conditions. The acquisition does not require approval by the competition authority and so comes into immediate effect.

TDC Group senior executive vice president Michael Moyell Juul said Plenti is a solid company with a highly qualified team that has gathered a considerable number of subscribers within a very short period. The ownership change will not make any difference for the subscribers, who will all continue their existing subscriptions.

Telmore to absorb Plenti following acquisition by TDC

Customers will keep their existing SIM card, phone number, tariffs and data allowances. There may be some changes to entertainment services provided.

TDC to recommend new takeover offer from Macquarie consortium

Danish operator TDC said a consortium of pensions companies PFA, PKA, ATP, and Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, has decided to launch a take-over offer for it for an all-cash consideration of DKK 50.25 per share. The offer is subject to its merger with MTG's Nordic Entertainment and Studio Business not going ahead. TDC will recommend that shareholders accept the consortium's offer, which would not be conditional on due diligence, once approved by the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority.

3 Denmark appeals against VAT demand, gains 8,000 users in Q4

Mobile operator 3 Denmark sadd it has appealed against a decision by tax office SKAT regarding VAT payments. It said the fourth quarter operating result before write-downs was a loss of DKK 239 million following a one-off payment of DKK 418 million to SKAT for VAT. Despite having paid, 3 Denmark disagrees with the tax office's interpretation of the law, and so has appealed against the decision, asking for clarification.

Elisa said that its Elisa Kirjan electronic book service reached nearly 100,000 downloads in December 2017. In two years, online e-book purchases and rentals have almost doubled, according to research by Priorin. Audiobooks remain popular, too.

Plenti may no longer charge extra for roaming after TDC takeover

The Danish Energy Authority said it has withdrawn its permission for the MVNO Plenti to apply a roaming surcharge to customers using its service in the EU. It had gained an exemption from the RLAH regulation that came into force on 15 June, which normally prevents operators from charging roaming supplements. Plenti had given documentary proof that it had suffered a deficit on its retail roaming services.

Plenti moves customers from 3 Denmark to TDC network in December

Danish MVNO Plenti said it would be moving all of its customers from the 3 Denmark network to that of TDC during the course of December. The migration follows Plenti's acquisition by TDC, which was announced in September. Plenti said customers would be notified via e-mail to let them know when they would move grids.

TDC Q3 revenue dips 5%, loses consumer mobile voice RGUs without Plenti

Danish operator TDC said revenues fell 5.2 percent in the quarter to 30 September to DKK 4.96 billion from DKK 5.24 billion a year earlier. It lost 18,000 television customers in Denmark and 2,000 in Norway compared with the second quarter, but it said it is sticking to its full-year guidance. Danish consumer mobile voice customers were lower excluding Plenti.

TDC works with vocational college on 4-year networking course for electricians

Danish operator TDC said it is working with Technical Education Copenhagen (TEC) in Frederiksberg to provide a four-year course to train electricians to specialise in networks and data communications. For some of the practical part of the course, TDC will work with installation company Fugmann. There is already a shortfall in skills in this area, with unemployment among electricians at almost zero.

Elisa says 14% of Finns bought e-book in past year

Finnish operator Elisa said that 14 percent of respondents in a survey had bought an electronic book in the past year, up from 12 percent a year earlier. In all, the number of people buying e-books has almost doubled in the past two years. There has been a particular rise among people who tend not to read much.

3 Denmark expands largest data kitties at no extra cost

3 Denmark said it is adding more internet traffic to its largest data packages at no extra cost. The 100 GB bundle grows to 125 GB but the price remains DKK 200 per month. The 150 GB package is expanding to 200 GB yet still costs DKK 250, and the 300 GB bundle becomes DKK 350 GB but still costs DKK 300.

3 Denmark gains 17,000 customers in Q3, revenue rises thanks to smartphone campaign

3 Denmark said it gained 17,000 new customers in the third quarter, giving it a total of 1.27 million. Revenue in the period rose to DKK 713 million from DKK 703 million last year, amid tough competition. Revenue was buoyed by its summer campaign for smartphones and strong start to sales of the new iPhones.

TDC signs 2-year public procurement contract

TDC Group said it has signed a new agreement to provide telephony and internet services through state and municipal procurement service SKI. It said 80 borough councils and certain other public organisations have signed up to agreement 50.48. It covers fixed and mobile telphony, mobile broadband, mobile handsets and technical support.

3 Denmark extends 3LikeHome roaming service to Thailand

3 Denmark said it is extending the scope of it 3LikeHome roaming service to cover Thailand, enabling customers to use their phones at the same prices there as in Denmark. This expands the number of countries under 3LikeHome to 53. 3LikeHome is included in all of the operator's Fri Tale and mobile broadband subscriptions for retail customers, and in some services for business customers.

TDC says fewer than half of Danish children discuss internet abuse

Fewer than half of children (48%) who have come across something unpleasant online talk about it, according to Danish operator TDC, citing the BorneTelefonen children's helpline. More than one in four (28.3%) has felt left out on social networks or internet games). Nearly one in three (29.8%) said pictures of them had been shared online without their consent.
