Danish operator TDC has selected Nortel to deliver a 40G-ready, next-generation optical network across Europe that will provide four times the bandwidth of their current network. TDC is deploying the new adaptive optical service initially to carry TDC European network traffic across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany. With this system, TDC can support 10G services currently as well as next-generation 40G services using Nortel 40G/100G Adaptive Optical Engine technology. TDC will test 40G products and services with the intent of launching 40G services in late 2008. The TDC optical network comprises the Optical Multiservice Edge 6500 convergence platform and the Common Photonic Layer. The system features Nortel's 40G/100G Adaptive Optical Engine technology that utilises the full value of ROADM for all optical networking with its integrated dispersion compensation capabilities. Nortel Optical Network Manager will provide the required operations administration and management for the network along with advanced network planning tools.
