Tele Columbus to introduce 400 Mbps connections in Potsdam
Tele Columbus announced it will launch a new internet service on 1 April with download speeds of up to 400 Mbps. The new service will be first introduced in the region of Potsdam where 40,000 households are connected to Tele Columbus' network. The cable network operator has been expanding its network using a hybrid fibre coaxial structure and FTTB. Prices for the 400-megabit product will be announced for the market launch in April. A roll-out of the service to further regions is planned, an exact timetable is still to be set.

The current top speed offered by Tele Columbus is 150 Mbps. Other cable operators in Germany, such as Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia, have started upgrading their networks for 200 Mbps. Incumbent Deutsche Telekom is offering up to 100 Mbps in select areas where it is rolling out VDSL vectoring and 200 Mbps on FTTH networks in certain cities.
