Tele-Post Greenland changes name to Tusass

Tele-Post Greenland has announced that it is changing its name to Tusass, a word already associated with some of its telecoms services. CEO Kristian Reinert Davidsen described "Tusass" as a good Greenlandic word. It apparently means "Let's keep in touch".

The company will be switching its signage and logo. In Tele-Greenland's 150-year history, the business has had some 20 different names.

Greenlandic operator Tusass said it is marking its centenary by upgrading its top tier 80/20 Mbps broadband subscription to 100 Mbps downlink/20 Mbps uplink. Tusass CEO returns to Foroya Tele in Q1

Greenlandic operator Tusass has announced the resignation of managing director Kristian Reinert Davidsen with effect from the first quarter of 2024. He will return to his old job of managing director of Faroese operator Foroya Tele to improve the balance between his working and family lives. The Tusass board has already started looking for a replacement.

Tusass expects Greenland Connect submarine cable repairs to start on 19 August

Tusass said that it currently expects repair work on the Greenland Connect cable to begin on 19 August, subject to weather conditions and logistics. This will affect all internet and mobile data connections to the south of Nuuk. It will issue a more precise repair schedule within the next few days.

Tusass appoints CFO from TDC Net in October

Greenlandic operator Tusass has announced the appointment of Toke Binzer as its CFO from 01 October. He joins the company from the role of VP for technology, strategy and economics at TDC Net. The operator said his appointment comes at a time when it plans to invest up to DKK 1 billion in telecoms infrastructure as it introduces new services.

Tusass gets new chairman

Greenlandic operator Tusass has announced the resignation of chairwoman Stine Bosse after seven years at a general meeting on 20 May. She is being replaced by Ulrik Blidorf, a board member who has contributed towards the operator's strategy for the period 2021-2024. Tusass also welcomes Maja Motzfeldt-Haahr as a new board member.

Tusass makes DKK 19 mln provision in FY results for submarine cable repair

Greenlandic telecoms operator Tusass has reported a pre-tax profit of DKK 112.0 million for the 2021 financial year, saying it considers this a satisfactory result. The figure is DKK 55.0 million lower than the one for 2020. It was dented to the tune of DKK 19.0 million by a provision to repair a failure on its submarine cable from Nuuk to Qaqortoq during summer 2022, when the weather is most favourable.

Tusass plans to expand flat rate internet availability to Qaanaq and Thule air base via satellite

Greenlandic operator Tusass said it expects improved satellite connectivity to enable it to offer flat rate internet services in 2023 in the town of Qaanaaq (formerly Thule) as well as in farming areas. The inclusive services will also be available to Thule air base staff, assuming Tusass reaches an agreement with the US Air Force to do so. The air base is out of range of the satellite that Tusass started using in 2021 in eastern Greenland.

Tusass to shut down Greenlandic fixed phone network in 2022

Greenlandic operator Tusass, formerly Tele-Post Greenland, has announced that it will be phasing out landline telephony this year. It says Greenland's fixed line phone network uses obsolete equipment for which it is no longer possible to obtain spare parts.

Tusass completes satellite ground station in Ittoqqortoormiit

Tusass, which used to be called Tele-Post Greenland, said it has completed construction of a satellite ground station at Ittoqqortoormiit, paving the way for the provision of flat rate internet service to customers on the eastern coast. Tusass said other countries connect towns and settlements using roadways and fibre, but given the Greenlandic climate and distances between inhabited places, an alternative is needed. Tele Greenland uses Skywrap to improve communications in south

Tele-Post Greenland has announced an investment in Skywrap as part of its efforts to improve communication in the southern part of the country. Tele Greenland said the municipality of Kujalleq was hit hard by coronavirus shut-downs and new, digital ways had to be found to carry out work. The operator intends to improve connectivity there using Skywrap on national energy firm Nukissiorfiit's high-voltage lines from from Qaqortoq to Narsaq.

Tele Greenland expects Ittoqqortoormiit satellite earth station to be ready by year-end

Tele-Post Greenland has announced that a satellite earth station is under construction in Ittoqqortoormiit and is due for completion by the end of 2021, paving the way for the provision of flat-rate internet services there. Last year, Tele Greenland established a satellite earth station in Tasiilaq, where customers have since been able to subscribe to internet at a fixed monthly price with unlimited data usage.

Tele Greenland names new head of e-commerce and logistics as online shopping thrives

Tele-Post Greenland has announced the appointment of Lars Borris Pedersen as director of its e-commerce and logistics division from 01 September as Greenlandic digitisation increases. Internet traffic in the country expanded by 2,135 percent between 2017 and 2020. The operator said the coronavirus crisis has led to more and more people shopping online.

Greenlandic home internet penetration rises to 68% in 2020 from 45% in 2016

Tele-Post Greenland said in a presentation to shareholders at its 18 May AGM that Greenlandic home internet penetration rose from 45 percent in 2016 to 68 percent in 2020. The operator ended last year with 15,700 broadband customers, up by 9 percent from 14,452 in 2019. The number of mobile subscriptions, both GSM and Tusass data subscriptions, was up by 1 percent at 65,027 from 64,700 the year before.

Tele Greenland offers inclusive Tusass subscriptions in Tasiilaq and environs

Tele-Post Greenland has announced the launch of new, inclusive Tusass internet subscriptions in Tasiilaq and the surrounding settlements, ending the limits there to the amount of data that customers can use. Available subscriptions are for 1 Mbps for downloads and 0.5 Mbps for uploads, as well as 2 Mbps/1 Mbps and 4 Mbps/1 Mbps. The fastest service is only available in Tasiilaq itself.

Tele Greenland adds mobile data to some Tusass subscriptions, offers new 5 GB bundle

Tele-Post Greenland said it is expanding the internet allowances of some of the most popular Tusass mobile subscriptions without raising the prices. This applies for both private and business customers. For example, the 12 GB Tusass Mobil subscription at DKK 499 will now provide 20 GB of data, and the 20 GB subscription at DKK 699 will supply 50 GB instead.
