Telecom Argentina appoints new CEO
Telecom Argentina has appointed Oscar Cicchetti as the operator's new CEO, El Cronista reports. The recently appointed executive replaces Stefano de Angelis, who returned to Italy to lead Telecom Italia's consumer business. Prior to this new position, Cicchetti was Telecom Italia's director for special projects. Telecom Italia has recently extended the deadline to close its sale of Telecom Argentina to 1 September. The sale to US investment fund Fintech is still awaiting final approval from Argentina's telecoms ministry SeCom. In November 2013, Telecom Italia had agreed to sell its entire stake in Telecom Argentina to Fintech Group for USD 960 million. Telecom Argentina offers fixed and internet services as well as mobile telephony through its Personal unit.

Telecom Argentina's net profits up 40.5% in Q2

Argentine telecommunications operator Telecom Argentina posted a net profit of ARS 930 million in the second quarter of the year, up 40.5 percent compared to 662 million in the year-ago quarter. The operator's overall revenues for the quarter reached ARS 8.119 billion, up 22.1 percent from ARS 6.649 billion the previous year. During the second quarter the operator's fixed line business - including voice, data and internet - generated revenues of ARS 2.073 billion, an increase of 21.7 percent year-on-year.
