
Telecom Argentina net profit jumps 41% in H1

Telecom Argentina reported first-half net sales of ARS 8.61 billion, up 28 percent over the year-earlier period. Mobile revenues rose 35 percent to ARS 6.05 billion, while fixed voice, data and internet business revenues increased 15 percent to ARS 2.56 billion. OIBDA improved 25 percent to ARS 2.70 billion, and net profit was up 41 percent to ARS 1.21 billion. The operator's mobile unit Personal gained 2.05 million new customers in the quarter for a total 17.3 million at the end of June. Of the total, around 70 percent are prepaid and 30 percent are postpaid. Mobile ARPU increased by 16 percent to ARS 48.3 from ARS 41.5 in June 2010. Nucleo, the company's mobile unit in Paraguay, generated revenues of PYG 344 million in the first half, up by 59 percent versus the same period of 2010. Nucleo's user base increased by 8 percent in the period to 1.9 million customers. Telecom Argentina's number of ADSL customers rose 14 percent to 1.45 million.
