Telecom Egypt launches FTTH services in Cairo
Telecom Egypt (TE) has launched its first fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) implementation in Egypt, in the Cairo suburb Qatamiya. TE said it's adopting a new strategy to roll out fibre access networks in areas with demand for high-speed broadband access that reaches 70 Mbps. The operator has started implementing FTTx access networks in the rising new suburbs around Cairo and Alexandria, and the Qatamiya area is now the first to receive triple-play services over the new network. TE will target high-end and business customers with the fibre services. Voice, data and IPTV services are offered to customers in coordination with TE Data and utilizing existing content contracts such as those with ART, the Arabic content provider.
