Telecom Italia CEO criticizes LLU legislation

Telecom Italia CEO Franco Bernabe has criticized the proposed legislation on unbundling costs in Italy. Speaking at the presentation of the annual report of the operator's network monitoring unit, he said the measures were in violation of EU law, which requires an independent regulator, and unconstitutional, as they infringed on the company's right to manage its own assets, news agency ANSA reports. The EU regulator Berec has also opposed the legislation, and the European Commission asked the government to explain the proposals. The legislation would allow alternative operators using the incumbent's network to conduct repairs on their own or use third parties, and avoid extra charges from Telecom Italia for certain maintenance costs.
