
Telecom Italia outlines plans for job cuts

Telecom Italia has outlined plans for additional job cuts. In a meeting with unions on its recently unveiled strategic plan, the company said it has cut 2,300 jobs in 2009-10 and expects another 4,522 jobs to go by the end of 2012. The Italian operator also told unions it will keep its shared service centre (SSC) as part of the group, as part of efforts to improve competitiveness. Telecom Italia said it agreed with unions to meet further to discuss the plans for the domestic market and technology & operations. Last week the operator said it plans cost reductions of in total EUR 2.7 billion in 2010-2012, up from a previous target of EUR 2.0 billion in 2009-11.
