Telecom Italia to contribute to TIM Brasil capital increase
Telecom Italia will subscribe for its pro rata share of a capital increase announced by TIM Participacoes, the holding company for Brazilian operator TIM Brasil. The exact amount of capital raised will be set later. Telecom Italia has a 66.94 percent stake in the Brazilian company. The extra capital will be used to finance the company's development plans and expansion of the fixed and mobile network infrastructure, including the recently acquired AES Atimus operations.

TIM Brasil raises BRL 1.72 billion through IPO

TIM Brasil raised BRL 1.72 billion in the market through an IPO on 04 October on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange. Demand was 150 percent of the available quantity and the price per share of common stock issued was set at BRL 8.60 at a meeting of the board of directors, which also approved the company's capital increase to BRL 9.8 billion. The proceeds from the offering will be used for expansion and improvements to infrastructure and network capacity, in line with the company's strategy.

Wi-Fi on Frecciarossa trains remains free for now

Trenitalia (Italian State Railways) is to continue providing Telecom Italia's Wi-Fi internet services on its 60 high-speed Frecciarossa trains at no charge for now. The latest decision means Trenitalia has once again postponed charging for the service, which was due to begin on 14 September, because the UMTS network has proven too slow to ensure normal browsing for all passengers. So far, an estimated EUR 100 million have been invested in the venture.
