Telefonica in talks for EUR 8 bln loan – report
Telefonica has received a EUR 8 billion loan financing offer from 20 banks, to back its offer for Portugal Telecom's stake in Brazilian operator Vivo, and refinance existing debt. Of the overall loan amount, Telefonica would use around EUR 5 billion to finance the EUR 7.15 billion bid for Vivo, Cinco Dias reports, citing unnamed sources. The remaining EUR 3 billion would be used to refinance Telefonica's debt that matures in the short-term.

The Portuguese government has used its golden shares in Portugal Telecom to block the proposed sale of the company's stake in Brazilian mobile operator Vivo to Telefonica. While a majority of the other shareholders at the extraordinary meeting voted in favour of accepting Telefonica's sweetened bid of EUR 7.15 billion, the state used its 500 class A shares with special voting rights to block the deal. Telefonica boosts bid for PT's Vivo stake to EUR 7.15 bln

Telefonica has again increased its offer for Portugal Telecom's stake in Brazilian operator Vivo, hours before PT shareholders are expected to vote on the deal. Telefonica has now boosted its previous EUR 6.5 billion offer by 10 percent. The new consideration amounts to EUR 7.15 billion and is valid until 2 July. All the other terms and conditions of the previous offer launched on 1 June remain the same. The revamped offer will be submitted to PT shareholders at the general shareholders meeting on 30 June.
