Telekom Slovenije unbundles ISDN and ADSL
Slovenian fixed-line telecommunications operator Telekom Slovenije has unbundled its ISDN digital telephony and ADSL broadband internet packages. Users will no longer have to sign up to ISDN in order to apply for ADSL. Telekom Slovenije labelled the move a gesture of good will to small competing internet providers, which had viewed the bundling of ISDN and ADSL as just another monopolistic practice by the telco. Moreover, the state-owned company said it expected the unbundling to result in a rise in the number of households using broadband internet. The move comes after the telecommunications watchdog, the Agency for Post and Electronic Communications, told Telekom Slovenije at the end of May that it should consider untying the two services in the shortest possible time. Rival internet service providers have long argued that the two services are technically unrelated, claiming that Telekom Slovenije was using its monopoly position to extract extra revenue.
