Telenet has filed a complaint with the Belgian competition authority against plans by its rivals Orange Belgium and Proximus to start a network sharing joint venture. Proximus and Orange confirmed the complaint, while Telenet declined to comment, Datanews reported.
Proximus and Orange signed a letter of intent in July and aims to have an agreement in place by year-end on sharing mobile network infrastructure. A 50-50 joint venture will be set up to plan, build and manage the network, while the companies continue to operate separate commercial policies and services.
Shortly after the announcement, Telenet said it was interested in talks with Proximus and Orange on joining the joint venture. In September it was reported that Telenet would not be joining.
Telenet's complaint asks the regulator to suspend the joint venture while it evaluates the merits of the case.
