Telenor Serbia enters fixed market with TV, broadband offers

Telenor Serbia has entered the fixed market with the launch of its new Hipernet packages. The offering combines home broadband at up to 250/125 Mbps with whole-home Wi-Fi coverage, digital TV (138 TV channels, plus the HBO Go, Deezer and YouTube apps) and fixed telephony services. Postpaid mobile customers get a discount on the packages as well as double the contracted internet speed.

The offer consists of eight Hypernet packages, combining single services (optical internet), dual-play options (digital TV and internet or internet and fixed telephony), as well as triple-play options (digital TV, internet and fixed telephony). Telenor signed a wholesale deal with Telekom Srbija last year to use its network. 

The monthly subscription ranges from RSD 2,499 to RSD 5,299. New subscribers to the Hipernet Duo M, Duo L, Trio M and Trio L packages will pay only RSD 1/month for the TV service, which is still in test mode, until 1 August 2022 and can cancel free with no penalty until February 2022. Internet-only customers can get the first six months at RSD 1 per month.

Telenor Serbia has received official regulatory approval to enter the TV content distribution and fixed broadband internet market. Serbia's Commission for Protection of Competition confirmed the agreements the operator signed with Telekom Srbija for the use of fibre and Ethernet bitstream services, exempting them from potential prohibition.

Telenor Serbia to launch TV offer in 2021

Telenor Serbia is planning to launch a cable TV offer during 2021 if it receives regulatory approval, according to strategic advisor Goran Vasic. He told B92 that the operator plans to sign commercial infrastructure lease agreements and is negotiating with all providers and distributors of media content, including United Group.

United Media, which broadcasts more than 30 channels to more than 20 million people in the Former Yugoslavia region, is warning of increased government pressure on media in Serbia. The broadcasting group, which also owns cable network SBB, pointed to a potential threat also from Telekom Srbija's planned fibre network sharing deal with Telenor Serbia. United said the intent is to "erode the market share" of SBB, thus undermining the group's ability to finance content.

Telekom Srbija says Telenor deal worth over EUR 250 million

Telekom Srbija CEO Vladimir Lucic said that the business cooperation agreement signed with Telenor will be worth over EUR 250 million over the next 15 years. He told the Tanjug news agency that details of the contract would be published if regulatory authorities give their approval.

Telekom Srbija to lease fibre infrastructure to Telenor Serbia

Telekom Srbija announced that it plans to lease its fibre-optic infrastructure to Telenor Serbia on commercial terms, reports Danas. According to the operator, this will "significantly liberalize the telecommunications market in Serbia, bring numerous benefits to users and foster competition in the telecommunications industry".

Telenor Serbia invests EUR 33 million in infrastructure in 2020

Telenor Serbia invested more than EUR 33 million in 2020 in infrastructure alone, built 44 new base stations and installed additional 4G capacity at another 850 locations, CEO Mike Michel told Beta. He said that data transmission increased by 40 percent compared with 2019, while voice traffic was up by 12 percent.
